Moved in

So here is our home. The outside of it anyway not quite ready for indoor shots. We are in the middle unit of a three unit dwelling. We share a carport with the neighbor, there are 7 extra parking spots in the middle of the circle. Our back patio is screened in and it's pretty nice. We get a great breeze through the house which is great because it's 85 everyday and no airconditioning. :( Most people have window a/c units but it just isn't one of our top priorities right now since it is "winter". Our neighbors say we'll really need em come may-july.

We actually live on Pipi circle! HA! It is quite funny giving people our address. They always say "really?" Ugh welcome to Hawaii! Anyways we love our home and our neighbors and living onpost again after 3 years of civilan life in Lousy-ana. No freaky landlords to worry about here. :) Although the housing is privatized it still feels like normal post housing. You call maintenance to fix stuff and you get no BAH. So what's the major difference...not sure yet. I'll keep you posted.

A base housing. Never lived in it myself, hubby grew up in it so wouldn't even think about it when we got married.

Pipi ranks right up there with LikeLike Highway. While my wife and I were there on TDY we had to laugh about that name.

Have you gone to try Giovani's Shrimp truck at Kahuku? What about Aioki's Shave Ice in Haleiwa?

I can't wait until my wife can snag an assignment to Ft. Shafter.

Welcome to Hawaii! We live on Hickam, and my first suggestion to keep the centipedes and roaches from overpopulating is Terminex! Make sure you get out and explore--the Windward (west) side is completely different from the Leeward (east) side, for instance.

Anyway, welcome!

well, if you're going to need an a/c unit in May, NOW is the best time to shop for one! (It's the off-season!)

The house looks comfy... and any place there is a family that loves, it's home.

I hope we eventually end up in Hawaii. I need some sun and sand! I know alot of ppl complain about on-post housing but I have always liked it. It's so much closer to everything and the 'sounds' of the army is really sort of comforting.

Hi Karen!
I was so glad to see the house...that comment was right on..get those A/C's NOW while you can get them on sale and have the money....excellent investment for your well-being! Buy new ones so you won;t have any problems withthem breaking down when you most need them. We are still having beautiful weather here in Bahrain too. I've been driving all over witht he top down! Hey Jill! Looks like a nice place!! It is funny that on our first assignment to Hawaii, Doug and I lived on Kaaka Street --- now you live on PiPi! Glad to have all the bases covered!! Hey, can you send me your phone number? We just got your Christmas Card (and your address) today. Soooo... Christmas gifts will be late, but that's kind of good... spreading the presents out! Anyhoo, call me or email me your number (it's Lsobin, not Isobin --- too many e-mails about, well you can imagine.)
Hugs and Kisses to everyone!! Michael and Karen would very much like some ling hi mui powder (to sprinkle on apples) when you have a chance to send a little package... that is what they miss and would like.
Have you tried Genki Sushi yet?? They are so WOW!!
Love,
Linda

Hey welcome to "wonderful" hawaiii!!! I live at HMR (helemono-which is between Wahiawa and North Shore). My street is Malohi and my friends is Koloko ct.

The two funniest things we saw when we first got here in February of 04...1) locals wearing sweats and winter coats and it's 80 degree's....2) they serve spam and rice at McDonalds!!!

Funny how we've (my friend and i and most everyone i know) have been here at 2 years and in some cases longer...and we all CAN'T WAIT to get back to the mainland!! It's great to visit but not to live!!

Despite how most everyone I know doesn't like it here...we hope you enjoy your stay...and not be taken by the "tourist/military" traps.

Matsumoto's shave ice is the best (better than Aioki's IMO). There is great snorkeling to be had at Pupukea (on the N. Shore just past Sunset). Giovani's shrimp truck is AWESOME!

Give a holler sometime! We're always up for more friends!
