Going to Hawaii
So now that we know where we are going we have TONS of questions. Anybody having any information about Schofield barracks or Oahu Hawaii please comment or email me. I am so excited! This is gonna be fun... Also I need help shedding some pounds. I don't want any life guard trying to roll me back into the water when I am trying to sun bathe... "Arhhhh Beached Whale!!" No but seriously I need to lose about 50 pounds to look decent in a suit. So send some ideas or hints that have worked for you. I have already given up my favorite beverage Dr. Pepper it's been 4 weeks since I've had one. So I am trying. Any thoughts you want to share comment or email me. Thanks!

You are gorgeous! I'm glad you are excited. You deserve it for what you had to put up with from me and the Army for the last few years.
Thanks for your patience and love.
You are welcome for the love but I think the patience ran out about six months ago. It is very hard to watch someone you love deteriorate emotionally and physically. I should have been more persistant and kind. I am sorry. But the good news is... we are coming out of our hole, we hit bottom theres no where to go but up!
well allrighty then!!!! Cut out sugar...all sugar...read labels and cut out fructose yadda yadda. Also, cut out simple carbs. Stick to whole grain pastas and bread. Hey, it worked for oprah!!!!;)
I've been reading your hubby's blog for a bit but didn't realize you all are headed this way. Cool.
Feel free to fire off any questions you might have. If I don't know the answer, I'll find it for you!
I don't have much advice on the weight loss but I will tell you there are MORE than enough opportunities to be active over here! Hiking, biking, swimming, surfing, climbing, snorkeling, scuba diving...you name it! And be careful with the Atkins' diet - it is rough on your kidneys.

The thing that I've found to work for weight loss is annoyingly simple. (But it involves MATH...oh my gosh...that's a nightmare for me!) One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. You have to burn that many calories, aerobically, in order to lose a pound. But your resting metabolic rate has to be added in (which for most women is around 1500-2000 calories a day). You know what, I'm going to email you because maybe it's not quite as short an answer as I thought...:)
Joan is right - calories are still the key. However - when you are looking at what to cut, be sure to balance the goodies from all three sources : Protein, Carbs and Fat. I have had great success (when I stick to it) using the 40-30-30 balance plan, where 40% of the calories come from carbs (complex, veggies, etc.) / 30% from lean protein / 30% from Non-Sat fat like Olive oil, nuts, etc.
I read about it in a book, but you can get all the info you need online as well - Here and Here are good starting points. Yes, I also use Balance Bars as a snack item, much better for you than a candy bar, and darned tasty. My favorite is Cinnamon Oats & Honey.
